Lee/Romita was just as good! I agree though. The villains shouldn't be toned down much either. The ridiculous costumes provides Spider-Man with his best one liners. I want to see Scorpion! Also as far as love interests go of they do another younger Pete I want to see him try and date Betty Brandt like he did in the 60s books. People forget she was his first gal pal Nobody can replace Elizabeth Banks though, NOBODY! She was hot with brown hair but I want a quirky Betty and I am leaning toward Zooey Deschanel as Brandt. That's my perfect choice.
